FCPS' 2019 Excellence Award in the Impact on Others was awarded to Dr. Hollen.  All classes at Beech Tree Elementary have one class a week in STEM class with Dr. Hollen.  During this time students investigate science content infused with hands on experiments and integrated technology that help develop students scientific thinking, inquiry, and analyse.  Incorporating Portrait of a Graduate pillars students walk away with confidence, communication skills and collaboration skills.

Principal Karim Daugherty recruited Dr. Kristen Hollen three years ago as a STEM resource teacher. She used to work in a neuroscience laboratory. She found her passion for teaching while she was overseas with her husband. Since she came to Beech Tree, she has launched an EcoClub, which led to an increase in the school's recycling by 79 percent and their first EcoSchools Silver Award.  Watch this video to learn more about her passion for teaching!

The staff and students love Dr. Hollen and are very happy she is a part of the Beech Tree family.  Congratulations Dr. Hollen!
