Beech Tree Elementary School

English Language Arts 

Outcome: Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level (or above)  in English Language Arts.

Goal:  By the end of the 2022-2023 school year....

100% of kindergarten students will meet grade level expectations on PALs.

100% of 1st - 2nd grade students will meet their typical growth target on iReady.

100% of 3rd-5th Grade students will pass the Virginia Standards of Learning Assessment.

Strategy 1 

Students will develop oral language skills through authentic and meaningful speaking and listening interactions.

Strategy 2 

 Teachers will provide daily, systematic, explicit instruction in phonological awareness, phonics, and morphology in the core language arts block.

Strategy 3 

Students in all Tiers will receive targeted and differentiated instruction by their classroom teacher and support through the MTSS process.

 

Mathematics 

Outcome:  Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level (or above) in Mathematics.

Goal: By the end of the 2022-2023 school year...

100% of kindergarten students will meet grade level expectations on EMAS. 

100% of 1st - 2nd grade students will meet their typical growth target on iReady.

100% of 3rd-5th Grade students will pass the Virginia Standards of Learning Assessment.

 

Teachers will shift from looking for correct answers to looking for students’ thinking as measured by the number of teachers demonstrating instructional moves that reflect student thinking. 

Strategy 1   

Teacher will engage all students in meaningful learning through student-centered instruction anchored with rich mathematical tasks.

Strategy 2

Deepen student understanding by explicitly teach students to select and justify the most efficient strategies for solving various problems. 

Strategy 3  

Students in all tiers will receive targeted and differentiated instruction by their classroom teacher and support through our MTSS process.

 

Wellness 

Outcome: Beech Tree Elementary School will strengthen adult wellness and promote student wellness by using Morning Meeting and Closing Circles and CASELS Signature 3 Practices. 

Goal:  By the end of 2022-2023,  Beech Tree Elementary will utilize Morning Meeting, Closing Circle, and Zones of Regulation to teach self-management skills.  Favorable student responses to the self management domain on the social emotional screener will increase by 20%.

Strategy 1  

The school will set aside protected time to engage in required Tier 1 practices schoolwide.

Strategy 2 

 The wellness team will provide targeted or intensive interventions for students at Tier 2 and 3.

 

Portrait of a Graduate (POG)

Outcome:  All students will complete a Portrait of a Graduate Presentation of Learning  by SY 2025-2026.

Goal:

 

 By the end of SY 2022-23:

100% of students will demonstrate increased understanding of POG and an increase in student engagement as reported on a student survey given at the beginning and end of the year 

Strategy 1

The school will build an understanding with students, staff, and the community about why POG attributes and skills positively impact students within and beyond school.

Strategy 2

Teachers will design and facilitate inquiry-based opportunities that elevate student voice and increase student engagement.
